Hi friends, I only get thirty minutes to use the computer and the internet here at the resort, but thank God they even had that. Just wanted you to know I am here in North Carolina on vacation with the kids at the Smokies. This resort is amazing, you could do everything here and not be bored. But we came to introduce the kids to the Smokies, but they want to do the pool and the water park this place has. I don't understand the comparison to the Smokies, really I don't. And I don't understand a computer in this day in time that can't read Google code. Really, I am having to guess what the little zeros mean.
Yesterday we took them to Cade's Cove, one of the really beautiful relaxing spots at the Smokies. We saw deer and black bear. Yes, black bears, three, and they had stopped traffic by playing in the road. People got out of their cars to take pictures. Now really that is one not so smart idea. Anyway I am here until Friday and then will head home. I have been able to rest and read. Oh wow read. It is so fantastic.
I'll write more later.

I love the smokies and western NC. So, enjoy. and your kids sound just like the average kid, wanting pools and fun! But they will remember and appreciate the nature you are exposing them too. I'd love to see the bears, but no, I would not get out of my car to take a picture. yeesh. Enjoy, and safe travels.
sounds like fun to me! I want to know where you are staying!
Oooooh, love the Smokies! Have a wonderul time!
I hope to get to the Smokies sometime before too long. So far my trips to NC have only been to Fayetteville and the surrounding area (& Wrightsville beach once), though last time I got to explore Durham and Chapel Hill with my youngest as we dropped off middle daughter and family at airport and then had ~7 hours till our flight.
Water nearly always trumps scenery with kids - just take lots of pictures and talk with them about the trip as you show the pictures - over the years they will come to remember the scenery as well as the water!
Something about the black bears looking so cuddly I guess. I was riding a bicycle in Alaska (from our B&B - we had taken motorcycles and a ferry there)and one wandered across my path. I promptly stopped and took several pictures before it occurred to me that maybe that had NOT been the smartest reaction (it was a young-ish bear - where WAS the mom???) However, no mom ever showed and the pictures - and the wonderment of seeing a bear so close (who was even considerate enough to pose) but in its natural environment (not enough people around there then for it to be habituated to them I don't think) is one of my fondest memories of that trip 22 years ago!
Cades Cove is my favorite part of the Smokies. Biking it in October is heaven on earth.
Someday I want to hike Mount LeConte and spend the night in the lodge up there.
Everytime I go, I love it more and more. i don't think i have done Mount LeConte. I'll have to check it out.
